When planning a wedding, there’s a lot of preparations —you have to coordinate catering, flowers, entertainment, cake, and more, and it’s important you find it all on time so that your wedding is smooth and stress free. While we can’t help you plan your entire wedding, we can give you an idea of what the process of buying a wedding dress looks like so that you know when to purchase your gown.
After You Get Engaged
After the engagement, wedding planning begins! We recommend waiting until you’ve set a date and venue to book your dress shopping appointment. This way, you’ll be able to envision what your wedding day will look like much better. You’ll know what the weather will be like, and your venue may change your opinion on what type of dress you want.
8-10 Months Ahead of the Wedding
8-10 months before the wedding, you’ll order your dream dress. This sounds early, but trust us, you’ll want the time! A designer wedding dress is not made overnight. It takes several months for the designer to construct your dress to your ordered size, as the high quality fabrics and materials have to be sourced and sewn together to create your dream dress and to ship.
2 Months Ahead of the Wedding
After 4- 6 months, your gown will arrive from the designer. You’ll likely need alterations, which typically we do approximately 2 months prior the wedding. Nearly everyone needs alterations, whether you need a simple hem raised or strap tightened, or something more extensive. You’ll come in two months before the wedding for you initial fitting, then again to see the gown fitting once the alterations are complete and to ensure everything fits perfectly.
After your alterations, there’s nothing left to do but walk down the aisle! If you’re still looking for the wedding dress of your dreams, book an appointment at Burr Bridal and let us help you find your perfect bridal gown.
